If public speaking is truly the number one fear in America, then the Chaminade Speech & Debate Society (CSDS) is fearless.  This group of high school students competes at the local, state and national level in all forms of competitive high school speech and debate events.

Chaminade Presents the 2012 Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame

From the beginning athletics have been an important part of the Chaminade experience.  Since 1952, athletes have competed for Chaminade, while coaches and boosters also committed thousands of hours to young Eagles and their athletic program.  In 2002, the Chaminade Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame was formed to honor those athletes, coaches, and boosters for their contributions to the School. Chaminade Dancers Set to Take Center Stage

Nearly ten months ago two of Chaminade’s high school dance students donned dance costumes and hard hats for a photo shoot on what would soon be their stage in the Tutor Family Center for the Performing Arts.  As amazing as that experience was, walking into a brand new dance classroom was even better, and the best is yet to come.

Eagle Business Wins SoCal Student Company of the Year

Eagle Business did it again at the Southern California Junior Achievement Student Entrepreneurship Challenge.  As they did last year, the business program’s company, Eagle Eye, won Student Company of the Year, so they will now be considered for the National Company of the Year competition held in Washington, D.C. this summer.  In addition, they were recognized for Best Tradeshow Booth, Best Financial Projections and Most Innovative Company. Read More

Chaminade Competes in 5th Annual VEX Robotics World Championship

For three days members of both the High School and Middle School Eagle Engineering program competed at the 5th Annual VEX Robotics World Championship, which this year was held at the Anaheim Convention Center. The competition brought together the top 600 VEX teams from around the world in three divisions of middle, high school and college. The high school team made it to the semi-final, and was interviewed by KTLA for the afternoon news.  Read More

Tenebrae Convenes

Chaminade College Preparatory gathered the community together for an early Tenebrae on the Tuesday of Holy Week with a live stage production of Hugh McElyea’s Tenebrae: The Passion of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.  Held in the Tutor Family Center for the Performing Arts, the sold out performance featured students from Chaminade’s orchestra, Middle School and Upper School choirs, as well as alumni, parents, teachers, and friends of the School. Read More

Chaminade Film Students Go Behind the Scenes

The Advanced Film classes (Film III, IV, and V) visited the location shoot of the upcoming film Get a Job (2013). The students were guests of the cinematographer David Hennings, whose daughter Maddie ’12  is a current Film III student.  In between takes and camera set-ups, the students spoke with the director, producer, cinematographer, and several other members of the crew about their filmmaking process. Director Dylan Kidd shared stories from his own days as a student filmmaker, and encouraged the students to pursue their filmmaking dreams. “Just go do it,” he said, “and have fun.” Read More 

Spring Sing

Once a year, Harmony Chorus and Music Ministry combine to share their love for singing in a wonderful event known as “Spring Sing.” This fun-filled evening is held in the Media Center of the High School’s Condon Center. Harmony and Music Ministry each perform their favorite pieces of the year. The upperclassmen in Harmony Chorus are also given the opportunity to sing a solo by an artist or from a musical of their choice. They can either accompany themselves on guitar or piano, or have Matthew Park, Chaminade’s accompanist, play for them. Read More

Chaminade C-Notes Wins Top Honors at Heritage Festival

The Chaminade C-Notes won three top honors at the Heritage Choral Festival in San Diego (March 23-25). This is a national adjudicated choral festival in which choirs are judged by experts in the choral field on many aspects of the music such as interpretation, tone, balance, dynamics, diction, blend, rhythm and intonation. Eagle Engineering Competes in Long Beach

Eagle Engineering (Team 1138) was one of 66 teams which competed at the Los Angeles Regional FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) held at the Long Beach Arena in mid-March.  Most teams came from the greater Los Angeles area, but the field also included two foreign teams – one from Chile and another from Brazil.  For 18 teams, this is their first year competing. Taking Time Out for STEM Careers

Sometimes, it is nice to get out of the classroom, leave textbooks behind, and learn in a different setting.  Chaminade Middle School students did just that on Wednesday, March 21 during the Distinguished Science Speaker series.  Organized by Science Department Chair, Margie Chespak, the series is in its second year at Chaminade, and is a program designed to expose students to careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM). Chaminade President Wins NCEA Award

Chaminade College Preparatory President James V. Adams will receive the 2012 Catholic Secondary Education Award from the Secondary Schools Department of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA), given to Catholic school educators for distinguished service to Catholic education.

Adams was recognized by NCEA for his leadership at Chaminade, where he has molded a Catholic organization which lives and breathes it mission to form young adults who are committed to their faith, morally aware and academically capable people, and are outstanding contributors to the future.  Read More

Founders Day 2012 Honors Chaminade Alumnus

With eight miles separating Chaminade’s Middle School and High School campuses, a day when both student bodies can come together as one is quite special.  Wednesday, March 7, was one of those memorable occasions as all Chaminade students, faculty, and staff gathered in West Hills for the 24^th annual Founders Day Mass.

Established as a celebration in liturgy, Founders Day honors individuals, who in their work as employees or volunteers, have made significant contributions to Chaminade. This year’s event commended alumnus Richard Hunsaker ’58 as a Founder of Chaminade College Preparatory. Read More 

2012 Chaminade Film Festival

In mid-February, Film Club President, Tyler Jones ’12 and Film Club Vice President of Special Projects, Sara Simons ’12 hosted the 2012 Chaminade Film Festival.  Coordinated by Film Program Director, Karen Thumm, the festival welcomed 150 people for the screening of 24 student films. Screenings were divided into four categories; Narrative without Dialogue (short format), Experimental, Narrative with Dialogue (long format), and Documentary.  The awards for Best Film in a category were presented at the end of each category screening. When the screenings concluded, audience members voted for the Official Audience Selection, which was presented along with individual achievement awards. Read More

Chaminade Middle School Debate Has Best Start Ever!

In its fourth year as a program, the Chaminade Middle School Debate Team has opened the season with its strongest start ever.

On March 3, the Middle School Debate Team competed at the Curtis School Invitational, taking both top school awards for most wins and highest winning percentage.  Competing against schools including Oaks Christian, Oakwood, Curtis, Sycamore Canyon, and Colina, all five of Chaminade’s teams placed and the school finished the tournament with an impressive 17-3 record. Girls' and Boys' Varsity Basketball Triumphant Over Harvard-Westlake

On Wednesday night  Chaminade’s Girls’ Varsity basketball team snapped Harvard-Westlake’s league game winning streak with a 61-46 Mission League victory.
 
Chaminade’s Boys’ Varsity basketball team won Wednesday’s conference game with a 44-42 win over Harvard-Westlake.  Junior guard Jaron Martin nailed the three point game-winning shot with only four seconds left in the game. Read More

Boys Basketball: Chaminade holds off late Eastside Catholic rally, wins its own tourney

The Chaminade High boys' basketball team does not take kindly to strangers.

Mock Trial Takes 2nd in L.A. County

For the 4^th time in 5 years, the Chaminade Middle School Mock Trial Team competed in the finals of the prestigious Los Angeles County competition. After six rounds against more than 40 public and private schools, the team took 2^nd to eventual champion Jefferson Middle School. Read More

In early December, 11 students and three teachers from Stevenage England spent the day with the Eagle Engineering team.  The students from Great Britain were in town to compete at the Los Angeles Regional VEX Tournament held at Cal State Northridge. Read More

Chaminade Takes On Arryo Grande in CIF Semi-Final

This Friday, December 2, the Chaminade Varsity football team travels 300 miles roundtrip to Arroyo Grande High school to take on the Eagles in the CIF-SS Western Division Semi-Finals.  The game is a re-match of last season’s semi-final, won by Arroyo Grande.  Currently, the Chaminade Eagles (10-2), under the direction of Ed Croson, are ranked No. 1 in the Western Division and No. 30 in the State. Titanic and Avatar Producer, Jon Landau, Visits Chaminade!

John Landau, Academy Award winning producer of two of the highest grossing box office films of all time, Titanic (1997) and Avatar (2009), visited Chaminade’s West Hills campus to speak to film students. He shared clips from his projects, spoke about his experiences, and discussed how he got started as a producer in the film industry by working on small films.  Read more

Homecoming for the Eagles

Chaminade celebrated its 2011 Homecoming with a win 31-6 win over Mission League opponent, St. Paul on Friday, October 14.  The win capped off a fun-filled week of Homecoming activities during which students competed in various competitions and participated in spirit dress days – instead of the usual uniform, picture a sea of tourists (it was a Moroccan themed week) or students clad in orange and blue.
